Rumpelstiltskin was a German fairy tale collected by the Brothers Grimm in the 1812 edition of Children's and Household Tales. A popular tale, it's most recent interpretation is the use of the titular character in the television show 'Once Upon A Time'.
Once Upon a Nightmare sought to use the Blight as the motivation behind the Miller's daughter's determination to gain entry to the palace and the capital city of Thrine. Later, the prince's father was determined to be the Huntsman, further binding this tale to that of Snow White.
Canon Tale[]
For the last hundred years, the evil fairy known as Rumpelstiltskin had been locked away, trapped within a dagger for crimes committed against his own kind. But the dagger was stolen by the Order of Fate and found its way into the hands of the Miller’s Daughter when it was deemed most beneficial to the Order to have Rumpelstiltskin freed.
Desperate to find a way to gain herself and her father entry into Calladahn’s capital city of Thrine, the Miller's Daughter lied to the Queen about her magical ability to spin straw into gold. Although her lie was successful, she found herself ordered to make good on her promises or suffer the consequences. Now, seemingly caught in her lie and facing something worse than the Walking Starvation, the girl’s wish for a solution freed the evil Rumpelstiltskin from his imprisonment…but his powers are slight. He requires human souls to fuel it, and he can only attain them by fulfilling wishes and making deals…What terror has the Miller’s Daughter unleashed upon Thrine? Upon all of Ga’Leah?
